Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - North Rhine-Westphalia's Minister of Health Karl-Josef Laumann (CDU) has instructed the health authorities to examine positive corona tests on the German side of the border with the Netherlands for the mutated virus.

Laumann announced this on Wednesday in the state parliament's health committee.

According to the state government, the mutated corona virus has been detected in 10 percent of those infected with corona in neighboring Holland.

In contrast to England, the Netherlands were not classified as a high-risk area by the Robert Koch Institute.

Nevertheless, Laumann wants to know what is going on in the border districts like Kleve or Borken.

According to experts, the virus mutations found in England or South Africa are more infectious than previous forms.

According to Laumann, there are so far 15 proven cases in NRW.
