After four years in the hands of Donald Trump, the official Twitter account of the US presidency, @Potus, is now assigned to Joe Biden, the newly elected president who was sworn in on Wednesday.
A few minutes after his inauguration, Twitter thus transferred the @ POTUS account, for "President of the United States", used by Donald Trump since his election, to that of Joe Biden.
Donald Trump's tweets are now available on the @ POTUS45 account, the billionaire having been the 45th President of the United States.
The same is true for Mélanie Trump and the Trump administration with the @ FLOTUS45 or @ WhiteHouse45 accounts.
Just under a million subscribers
Since his election in November, Joe Biden has been using a provisional account, which was deleted on Wednesday.
He posted a message on January 15 explaining that this account would be renamed @ POTUS on January 20.
And the president has just under a million subscribers - those who followed his account as president-elect.
He is not the only one.
His wife, Jill Biden, picked up the account used by Melania Trump, @ FLOTUS for "First Lady of the United States".
Kamala Harris, the vice president, takes the one from Mike Pence, @ VP, for "Vice President".
Her husband, Douglas Emhoff, benefits from an account created for the occasion, @ SecondGentleman, Mike Pence's wife using the @ SecondLady account.
The same is true for the official White House account, @ WhiteHouse, now managed by the Biden administration.
