In the power struggle in the presidium of the major sports club Hamburger SV eV, the tone and the situation are clearly tightened.

Now Vice President Thomas Schulz has resisted criticism and the motion to be voted out of office.

"The allegations contained in the letter to the members, which culminate in the claim that my decisions are not made for the benefit of HSV, are insubstantial," he wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.

Facts in the letter of the honorary council to the members were "significantly not named".

The HSV Honorary Council had declared with other association bodies in a statement that "the actions of HSV Vice President Thomas Schulz are no longer acceptable".

He had "lost the trust of all committees" through the manner in which he was exercising his office.

The committees accused the deputy of HSV President and ex-professional footballer Marcell Jansen, "too often in his decisions by his own goals instead of the well-being of HSV".

Therefore, a vote against Schulz was submitted and an extraordinary general meeting was requested.

This should take place no later than six weeks after submitting the application.

"The decisions made in the presidium in the past few weeks serve the interests of HSV," wrote Schulz.

The fact that individual presidium members do not agree with one or the other decision "is however the consequence of a democratic process within a presidium consisting of several members".

The background is a dispute in the HSV presidium between Schulz and treasurer Moritz Schaefer on the one hand and President Jansen on the other.

It concerns the candidates for the supervisory board of the football club and the possible sale of further shares in the club.

Several HSV committees are said to have backed Jansen, they say.

FC St. Pauli: Littmann criticizes successor

While things are running smoothly at Hamburger SV - after a 5-0 win against VfL Osnabrück, the team settled at the top of the table - things look different at the penultimate, FC St. Pauli.

Now the former President Corny Littmann is expressing criticism of the overall appearance of the association and also of his successor Oke Göttlich.

"In the past few years the focus has not been on football enough for me, there has been a lot of talk about other things," complained the former club boss in "Sport Bild".

On the one hand, Littmann thinks that the fact that the relegation-threatened second division club was recently also about sustainable jerseys that the club will produce itself in the future is okay.

"Only: a beautiful and sustainable jersey alone doesn't score goals."

It depends on the core business

It is more decisive to subordinate everything to the concentration on sporting ambitions with staying in class as the minimum goal.

“Oke himself said: 'Relegation would be a worst-case scenario for the club'.

As president, he runs a medium-sized business enterprise and that only works if the core business works, ”emphasized Littmann, who ran FC St. Pauli from 2002 to 2010.

Stefan Orth took over the post, followed by Göttlich in November 2014.

New additions should bring about the turning point

Littmann is confident that the current table penultimate can prevent relegation to the third division thanks to the winter transfers.

"I'm not at all pessimistic: It's only halfway through the season, and the players who have come now have the quality the club needs," said the 68-year-old Hamburg theater maker.

On the other hand, Littmann would welcome the promotion of city rivals HSV: "Hamburg needs a first division team, and if FC St. Pauli is not able to do that, HSV should do it - at least try again for a year."
