Hamburg (dpa) - He is considered to be one of the most important forerunners of Surrealism and New Objectivity: The Hamburger Kunsthalle opens on Thursday evening (7 p.m.) digitally via livestream with “Magical Reality” an exhibition on the Italian artist Giorgio de Chirico (1888-1978 ).
Until April 25, 35 of his metaphysical pictures from American and European institutions as well as hidden private collections can be seen.
"The iconic images of sun-drenched, empty spaces in which time seems to stand still, are particularly haunting and topical today," said the Kunsthalle.
A total of more than 80 masterpieces from over 50 collections worldwide by de Chirico, Carlo Carrà, Giorgio Morandi, Alberto Magnelli, Alexander Archipenko, Pablo Picasso as well as Arnold Böcklin and Max Klinger can be discovered.
Since the show will only be accessible to visitors on site after the corona-related closure has been lifted, the Kunsthalle offers numerous digital offers on its website: In addition to the live stream for the opening, there is a photographic documentation of the exhibition and a picture gallery of selected works as well as detailed texts .
An audio tour with 20 selected works can be downloaded free of charge from the Kunsthalle app.
From February 5, there will also be a short film about the exhibition.
