158. This is the number of attempts it took for an Englishman to successfully pass the knowledge test for driving license in the United Kingdom.

The 42-year-old failed 157 times before passing the test, a first.

This national record appears in statistics released by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) of the United Kingdom at the request of the company Select Car Leasing.

According to

LADBible

, which relays these figures, the forty-something would have spent about 3,600 pounds sterling (4,000 euros) before getting the precious sesame.

Chess records

DVSA statistics cover the period from November 2010 to the end of June 2020 for all drivers in the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales).

In 2019-2020, the pass rate for the practical tests for the license was only 46%.

In second place is a 34-year-old Englishwoman who has passed the road traffic theory test 117 times in vain.

It is followed by a 32-year-old Welshman, who failed the theoretical test 94 times.

Regarding the practical driving test, the record is held by a 72-year-old Englishman, who had to take the exam 43 times before obtaining his license.

A permit difficult to obtain

In the United Kingdom, the theory test of the Highway Code is accompanied by a danger perception test.

Candidates must watch 14 videos and click on the screen as soon as they spot a dangerous situation.

The reaction speed of the learner driver is taken into account when calculating the points.

After the theoretical tests, the practical part is also more difficult than in France.

It begins with a vision check, which consists, among other things, of reading a license plate located 20 m away.

The candidate must then answer safety questions before finally embarking on the driving test itself, reports
