Düsseldorf / Bad Oeynhausen (dpa / lnw) - After allegedly numerous mistreatments of residents in a facility for the disabled in Bad Oeynhausen, an independent commission of experts is to help with the processing.

This was announced by the head of department in the North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry of Social Affairs in the state parliament's health committee on Wednesday.

"I can assure you that we will deal intensively with the problem and clarify it completely," said Udo Diel.

The public prosecutor is now taking care of the criminal investigation.

A project group in the ministry is now dealing with the question of where there is a problem in the system and where there are gaps in the control.

According to Diel, talks are currently being held with the foundation itself, but also with the Regional Association of Westphalia-Lippe and the supervisory authorities for the Minden-Lübbecke district.

«We have to answer the question: What alternatives do we want to offer people?

Do we need something between the simple integration aid on the one hand and forensics on the other? ”Said Diel.

According to the report, those to be cared for are people with, in some cases, great potential for aggression against themselves and their carers.

The police and the public prosecutor are investigating 145 suspects.

These include the former head of a division, doctors, responsible supervisors and members of the nursing staff.

There is suspicion of deprivation of liberty and bodily harm in a facility for the disabled.

The first investigations against an institution of the Diakonische Stiftung Wittekindshof started at the end of 2019 after a relative was reported.
