At least three people were killed in a massive explosion allegedly caused by a gas spill in the Spanish capital city of Madrid, and some of the six-story buildings collapsed.

According to the Associated Press and Reuters, the building collapsed with a loud explosion on the Toledo Street in downtown Madrid at around 3pm local time on the 20th, and a pile of stones poured into the street, and then a fire broke out inside the building.

Madrid Mayor Martinez-Almeida told reporters that at least three people died, one was missing, and more than six were injured.

The explosion that day occurred in the course of a boiler repair job at the back of the building, and gas leaks are considered the cause.

This building is owned by the Catholic Church, and some were used as lodgings for local priests.

There was also a school near the site of the explosion, but there was no damage to the students as school was stopped due to heavy snow on the 9th.
