Hanover (dpa / lni) - The vaccination campaign against the corona virus is delayed in Lower Saxony by several weeks due to reduced deliveries of the Biontech / Pfizer vaccine.

The vaccination of nursing home residents will probably only be completed in mid to late February instead of the end of January, said the deputy chief of the state government's Corona crisis team, Claudia Schröder, on Tuesday in Hanover.

The vaccination of over 80-year-olds who still live at home could only start in a few vaccination centers on February 1st instead of all.

The others followed in February.

Of the amount of Biontech / Pfizer vaccine originally promised for January for January, Lower Saxony will only receive 60 percent, said Schröder. From mid-February onwards, deliveries will resume as originally planned. 95,044 people have now been vaccinated in Lower Saxony. These are around 41,000 residents of homes and around 45,000 home workers. As Schröder announced, a little more than half of the residents and a little less than half of the home workers are already vaccinated.
