Donald Trump is leaving the presidency with a bang and will not follow tradition by attending when Joe Biden is sworn in as president.

But there are many other things that are different this year.

The ongoing corona pandemic that has shaken the world for a year will color the ceremony - as will the aftermath of the riots at the Capitol two weeks ago.

- We will broadcast the entire ceremony when Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are sworn in as president and vice president.

It will be surrounded by Lady Gaga who will sing the national anthem and a long speech by Biden, says Cecilia Andersson who is the editor of SVT's special broadcast.

What more will we see during the program?

 - We have two reporters and a correspondent in the US who will give us live reports.

Then we will also receive expert comments from, among others, Frida Stranne, who is a researcher and US expert.

SVT's Ann-Britt Ryd Pettersson will be the host of Wednesday's broadcast and believes that it will be a very different event we will see.

- I watched the last two times a new president was sworn in, but this will be very different.

In part, it is very corona-adapted, but so is this security effort due to the events at the Capitolium.

Is there anything that will be extra interesting?

- It will be very interesting to hear what Biden says in the speech.

Then we can hope that there will be no violence, there is a certain concern.

SVT's extra broadcast starts at 16.40 Swedish time on channel 1 and continues on channel 2 after 18.00.

It will also be possible to follow the ceremony on SVT Play and SVT.se and in SVT Nyheter's app where we also report live.
