Bünde (dpa / lnw) - A trophy from the successful motocross rider Larissa Papenmeier stolen from her father's grave in Bünde near Bielefeld has reappeared.

“I just shed tears,” said the multiple German champion and runner-up in her racing sport on Tuesday of the German press agency.

Following a tip, she found the undamaged trophy deposited near another cemetery in the city.

The "Neue Westfälische" had also reported.

Papenmeier had made the loss public on Facebook last week.

The post had been shared more than 3000 times.

She assumes that a stranger stole the trophy - possibly without knowing the particular story.

It was the last gift to her father, who died in 2017, she reported and gave the thief a period to return her loot.

According to her information, cemetery workers had seen a woman leave with the trophy.

Three weeks after his death in 2017, Papenmeier had finished third in the last World Cup race of the season in the Netherlands.

“I didn't even want to compete in this situation,” the 30-year-old recalled.

"But everyone said that Papa wouldn't have wanted that."

So she decided to drive the race for him.

Since then, the cup has stood on the father's grave in the cemetery in Bünde.

It should go there again - but only if it can be better secured.

To have it back undamaged is a great relief and joy.

"When he was gone, a piece of me was just missing," she said.

A planned report is now done for her, even if she lacks any explanation why someone is stealing things from a grave.

"I'm just glad he's back," she said.
