Cologne (dpa / lnw) - Contrary to what was suspected by a large number of positive rapid tests, there is now no major corona outbreak among employees in the prison in Cologne.

This was announced by JVA director Angela Wotzlaw on Tuesday.

The 21 rapid test results, which were initially positive, would not have been confirmed in subsequent PCR laboratory tests.

They are all negative.

The "Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger" had previously reported.

The reasons for the high number of incorrect results were initially unclear.

According to the prison, the rapid tests were carried out by specialist staff.

However, studies have shown that the test procedure is sometimes unreliable.

Positive results must therefore be confirmed in the laboratory.

PCR tests are considered very accurate.

The Cologne JVA had a total of 71 employees tested after a corona infection had been confirmed by an officer. They were contact persons for the infected woman. 21 rapid tests were then positive. Those affected were sent home as a precaution to wait for the result of the PCR laboratory tests.
