The Pentagon has ordered the deployment of about 2,750 regular armed forces personnel to Washington, to secure the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden, and to provide support for missions dealing with explosives, nuclear and chemical materials.

The number of National Guard personnel deployed in the capital rose to more than 21,500, out of 25,000 scheduled for deployment.

A National Guard statement said that more than 63,000 Guard members are currently deployed in various US states to provide support to the police and secret service.

For his part, Acting US Attorney General Jeff Rosen said that the authorities will not tolerate anyone who tries to spoil Joe Biden’s inauguration with violence or any other criminal act.

He added that anyone who tried to use violence to spoil the inauguration day would be arrested and prosecuted.

Rosen emphasized that the US Department of Justice, along with law enforcement agencies, is committed to ensuring a secure inauguration.

In turn, Acting US Defense Secretary Christopher Miller confirmed that National Guard personnel deployed to Washington to secure the inauguration ceremony will be conducting a security check on them.

In a statement, Miller stressed that the department had not obtained intelligence indicating an internal threat, but the Pentagon was sparing no effort to secure the capital.

He revealed that the Federal Bureau of Investigation "FBI" is providing assistance to the Ministry to accomplish this mission.

The Kyu Anon movement

In the same context, the Washington Post revealed that the FBI believes that followers of the far-right Q Anon movement participated in planning to sabotage Biden's inauguration.

She added that the planners discussed the use of sensitive facilities in Washington to interfere during the inauguration and impersonate members of the National Guard to infiltrate the ceremony.

Planners have also studied maps of important sites in Washington, DC, according to the newspaper.

For his part, former commander of Congressional Police Stephen Sand said that the supporters of US President Donald Trump who stormed the Congress building were well equipped and coordinated and armed with protective vests, helmets and explosives.

Sand, who has resigned, added that the least that could be said about that was that it was a coordinated and violent attack against Congress.

On the other hand, Democratic Representative Ted Liu said all President Trump had to do to prevent further political violence was to say the election was not stolen.
