Mainz (AP) - The departure of the Mainz top scorer Jean-Philippe Mateta is imminent.

As the «Bild-Zeitung» reported online on Tuesday immediately before the Bundesliga game against VfL Wolfsburg (8.30 p.m. / Sky), the 23-year-old Frenchman is switching to the English Premier League club Crystal Palace with immediate effect.

Mateta is already at the medical check in London.

This was also confirmed by coach Bo Svensson.

"If everything goes well, what we assume, that will go over the stage," said the coach.

The 05er have not yet officially confirmed the departure.

Mateta, who scored seven Bundesliga goals this season, was logically not in the squad for the game against Lower Saxony.

Svensson instead offered Karim Onisiwo and Jonathan Burkardt in attack.

With the guests from Wolfsburg, midfielder Maximilian Arnold returns directly to the starting line-up of coach Oliver Glasner after a game suspension.
