Mainz (AP) - The departure of the Mainz top scorer Jean-Philippe Mateta is perfect, according to the "Bild-Zeitung".

As the newspaper reported online on Tuesday immediately before the Bundesliga game against VfL Wolfsburg (8.30 p.m. / Sky), the 23-year-old Frenchman is moving to the English Premier League club Crystal Palace with immediate effect.

Mateta should therefore already be on the way to London and complete the medical check there.

The 05er initially did not confirm the departure.

Mateta, who scored seven Bundesliga goals this season, was not in the squad for the game against Lower Saxony.

Coach Bo Svensson offered Karim Onisiwo and Jonathan Burkardt instead.

With the guests from Wolfsburg, midfielder Maximilian Arnold returns directly to the starting line-up of coach Oliver Glasner after a game suspension.
