• Russia: A Russian court orders the imprisonment of Alexei Navalny until February 15

  • Editorial: Navalny's courage against the despot Putin

Following the arrest of opposition leader Alexey Navalny, his Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK) has published new research on a "palace"

allegedly built for Russian President Vladimir Putin

in Gelendzhik, a Russian resort town on the Black Sea coast.

Navalny's pretrial detention, on whose sentence in Russia will be decided in the next 30 days, coincides with what could be

his most important investigation to date

.

In a first part, the report also delves into the friendships that Putin made in the 80s and 90s and how many of them have been enriched to date.

POOL, CASINO AND 47 SOFAS

In the two-hour video, accompanied by a report and photos, Navalny and his team

recount the history of the residence and share images of the building's plans

and interiors.

According to Navalny's FBK investigation, more than € 1 billion was spent on its construction.

Casino, elongated pool with high ceilings, shisha smoking room, spa area, massages, beauty salon, water disco, tunnel to the beach and even what appears to be an underground hockey rink: there is everything in the palace.

Above all sofas: the investigation has counted 47.

All with a style between the imposted neoclassical and the most recalcitrant luxury.

It is a

property "the size of 39 principalities of Monaco"

.

It was built so that it could not be accessed by land, sea or air.

"It is the most secret and guarded facility in Russia, without exaggeration. (...) It is an entire city, a kingdom. It has impregnable fences, its own port, its own guards, a church,

its own access control and even its own 'border control' post

. It is directly a state within Russia. And in this state there is a unique and irreplaceable king: Putin, "says the main document of the investigation, which denies that the land was subsequently bought by a businessman , as published a few years ago.

Thousands of people who work there

are forbidden to bring even a simple mobile phone with a camera

.

Fishermen are forbidden to go near that part of the coast.

Nor can you reach the palace from the air: the place is in the no-fly zone that has the official name URP116.

"Why would the FSB establish a no-fly zone over a private palace?" Navalny's investigative team rhetorically asks.

The area of this huge palace complex is 68 hectares.

But in fact,

the palace's territory is about 100 times larger

.

The adjacent plot of 7,000 hectares belongs to the FSB (the Russian intelligence service successor to the KGB), always according to the investigation data.

"This is the biggest secret, the best-guarded facility in Russia. But we tried hard and got the details."

According to the documents,

this is the largest private residential building in Russia

.

CONTRACTOR LEAKS

How have Navalny collaborators obtained all this information?

Only a few clues are given in the report.

"One of the main contractors who worked on the decoration of the palace helped us. He was so overwhelmed and infuriated by the luxury of the decoration and the crazy prices of the furniture that he sent us a detailed architectural plan," say the researchers.

This latest video of Navalny

was seen by three million people in three hours

.

The opposition leader has stood out in recent years for his investigations into Putin's environment: his then prime minister, Dimitri Medvedev, his attorney general and various exponents of the Russian elite.

This is the first time that Navalny has delved into the life of the Russian president in such a direct way.

"[The palace] is Putin's most intimate dream. In its construction he

invested 20 years of his presidency

, for her he robbed the people, destroyed politics, rewrote the Constitution (...) He used all his unlimited power, an infinite amount of money and resources for this. "

And putin takes a bath

The Kremlin did not immediately react to these accusations.

President Putin continued with his usual schedule, which, every January 19, when Epiphany is celebrated,

includes bathing in a hole in the ice on the outskirts of Moscow in

front of television cameras.

His blue swimsuit was the subject of comments and jokes on social networks, as they resemble the ones Navalny was wearing on the day of his poisoning.

According to the opposition activist's subsequent investigation, FSB agents put toxic agent novichok in his underpants.

Navalny managed to speak with one of the alleged members of the FSB team who was in charge - later -

of making those "blue underpants" disappear,

taking advantage of the fact that Navalny was admitted.
