Munich (dpa) - Despite the still tense Corona situation, the city of Munich is still planning four games at the European Football Championship this summer.

The department for education and sport of the Bavarian capital announced this on Tuesday on request.

Because the number of corona infections is still very high and some experts assume that the situation will worsen in the next few months, doubts about a European championship with twelve host cities spread across the continent are growing.

Munich is "unchanged" assuming that the EM will also take place in the Allianz Arena, the city announced.

The concept of the event is regularly adjusted based on an ideal scenario - i.e. four games with spectators.

The situation is discussed on an ongoing basis in close coordination with the German Football Association, the European Football Union UEFA and the safety and health authorities.

Regulations should be made for each venue by March 5th.

Reports of business games according to which the tournament could only take place in one country - for example Russia - for logistical reasons, had already been rejected by UEFA in November.

The SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach expects the EM to be canceled completely.

He fears a corona situation in March "in which hardly anyone will even think of hosting a European football championship".
