Munich (dpa / lby) - People in need of care and elderly people who do not live in an old people's and nursing home have so far often missed out on vaccinations against the corona virus in Bavaria.

"The vaccination of non-mobile people in need of care should be carried out by mobile vaccination teams," said a spokesman for the Bavarian Ministry of Health.

“However, the properties of the vaccines currently available make it difficult to vaccinate them in the home environment, so vaccinations are currently being carried out in nursing homes and vaccination centers in particular.

This is mainly due to logistical reasons: an ampoule from the manufacturer Biontech always contains several vaccination doses.

As soon as this is opened, all vaccination doses must be vaccinated immediately.

So vaccination teams cannot drive from house to house with opened ampoules, because the vaccination doses would otherwise expire.

Those who cannot come to the vaccination center themselves are therefore initially dependent on relatives or neighbors driving them to the vaccination center.

But even in homes and vaccination centers, many appointments have to be canceled again because there are delays in the delivery of the vaccine.

According to the Ministry of Health, four deliveries are to arrive in Bavaria by February 15 - now with a total of 13 percent less vaccine than planned.

There are therefore delays and postponements in the initial vaccinations.
