Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Education Minister Susanne Eisenmann (CDU) welcomes the planned opening of elementary schools and daycare centers from February.

"Education Minister Eisenmann has been campaigning for weeks to differentiate according to age and to open daycare centers and primary schools as soon as possible," said a spokesman on Tuesday evening.

"In this respect, she expressly welcomes the Prime Minister's announcement."

The resolutions of the Prime Minister's Conference left room for maneuver to be able to offer face-to-face operation in daycare centers and primary schools - provided that there is no compulsory presence.

In Baden-Württemberg, the requirement to be present has been suspended since early summer 2020.

This means that parents don't have to send their children to school if they don't want to.

"We finally need a perspective, especially for smaller children and their parents," emphasized Eisenmann.

Baden-Württemberg's Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann announced on Tuesday evening that elementary schools and daycare centers in the state would probably be gradually reopened from February 1st.

He strives to carefully reopen daycare centers and elementary schools “if the infection situation allows,” said the Green politician after the federal-state meeting on the corona crisis.

The final decision will be made in the coming week.
