Outgoing US President Donald Trump and his wife Melania will leave the White House tomorrow morning, without receiving President-elect Joe Biden and his wife Jill, ignoring one of the most ancient American traditions in the process of transferring power.

It is customary for the outgoing president to receive his elected counterpart at the White House before they head together to Congress.

Trump has decided to break that tradition, and he will welcome Biden, the White House chief of operations and home services, Timothy Harlith.

CNN reported, citing sources, that Trump does not intend to leave a speech to Biden in the Oval Office, a tradition that carries great value in the handover ceremony, but the White House announced that it would distribute a farewell letter from Trump.

For his part, a CNN correspondent at the White House said that Trump might tour Washington's airspace on board the helicopter that would take him to Andrews base before leaving for Florida on Wednesday morning.

On the other hand, US officials suggested that Vice Trump, Mike Pence, would not attend and say goodbye to the outgoing president, indicating that he would be present at the inauguration of Biden, who left Delaware for Washington in preparation for the inauguration.

The "Washington Post" newspaper quoted White House officials as saying that it is expected that Vice President Pence will not attend Trump's farewell at "Andrews" Air Force Base tomorrow morning, Wednesday.
