• Milan becomes smoke free: from January stop smoking outdoors

19 January 2021 Milan says stop to cigarette smoking in the open air: from today in the city the ban on smoking at public transport stops, in parks, dog areas, cemeteries, stadiums and sports facilities comes into force.

This was established by the Municipality of Milan with the approval, on November 19, of the new regulation for air quality, the document that defines priorities and deadlines for a series of actions aimed at improving environmental quality in the city.

The smoking ban has been introduced in a soft way, in fact it will be possible to smoke outdoors if you are in isolated places but the distance of 10 meters from other people must still be respected.

From 1 January 2025 in Milan the smoking ban will then be extended to all public outdoor areas.

The penalties for those who do not respect the ban range from 40 to 240 euros, even if at the moment the municipality considers it a priority that citizens are informed about the prohibitions.
