Golf superstar Tiger Woods recently underwent a microdiscectomy that removed a fragment of a disc that pinched a nerve in his lower back, he announced on Twitter on Tuesday.

As a consequence of this intervention, he will not be recovered in time to participate, as he had planned, in the Farmer's Insurance Open scheduled for next week in San Diego or the Genesis Invitational to be held in Los Angeles next month.

"I can't wait to start training again," said the man with fifteen Grand Slam titles, without specifying when he had the operation.

No date has therefore been set for his return to the greens.

Woods has had surgery on his back and knees several times in recent years, but that hasn't stopped him from returning to the top level, winning the Augusta Masters in 2019, his first Major in eleven years.

In October 2019, he also won the Zozo Championship in Japan, his 82nd title on the PGA Tour, tying Sam Snead's record.

Since then, he is always looking for the victory that will place him alone at the top of this ranking.
