Germany will toughen its measures against the coronavirus, in particular by making the medical mask compulsory in transport and stores, and by extending the restrictions until February 14, Angela Merkel announced on Tuesday.

All restrictions already in place, such as the closure of schools, bars, restaurants and cultural venues, "will apply until February 14, 2021," the Chancellor announced after almost eight hours of negotiations with regional leaders.

In addition to the compulsory medical mask, new measures have been decided upon such as the obligation for employers to favor teleworking until at least March 15.
