Rostock (dpa / mv) - The apartment fire in a high-rise building in Rostock, in which a pensioner was critically injured at the weekend, was probably caused negligently.

A fire expert found this after examining the apartment on the ninth floor of the building in the Lütten Klein district, as a police spokeswoman said on Tuesday in Rostock.

The expert had come to the conclusion that the fire started on Saturday morning from the stove.

A 73 year old man lived in the apartment.

He was found by firefighters during the fire fighting and was flown to a special clinic in Lübeck with life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses had alerted the fire brigade because they observed smoke and broken windows around 8 a.m.

Around 70 emergency services were deployed for around two hours.

The affected senior has not yet been able to be heard, said the spokeswoman.

The apartment on fire is not habitable.

The residents of the neighboring and underlying apartments were able to return to their apartments after the mission.
