Karlsruhe (dpa) - Two and a half years after the verdict in the NSU trial, the Federal Court of Justice (BGH) is dealing with the appeals.

These were received on Tuesday, said the highest German criminal and civil court in Karlsruhe.

Most recently, the Federal Prosecutor's Office issued its opinions.

The 3rd criminal senate responsible for state security offenses will now familiarize itself, it said.

This will probably take a few months.

Further information on the progress of the proceedings, in particular a main hearing, could not yet be given.

In the mammoth trial of the murders and attacks by the neo-Nazi terror cell "National Socialist Underground" (NSU), the verdict was announced on July 11, 2018.

The Munich Higher Regional Court had sentenced Beate Zschäpe, the only survivor of the trio, to life imprisonment as an accomplice.

The BGH must decide on the appeals of the 46-year-old and three co-defendants.

The federal prosecutor's office, which had also led the indictment, is challenging the verdict against André E., which was surprisingly mild.
