A Saudi appeals court reduced the prison sentence of a Saudi doctor who holds American citizenship, Walid Fitaihi, from 6 to 3 years, which paves the way for his release.
The case of Fitaihi has sparked widespread controversy since his arrest in 2017 on charges of supporting a terrorist organization and obtaining US citizenship without permission.
The previous ruling infuriated Washington, and was denounced by members of the US Congress.
