In a curious incident, a French citizen from the northern region of Oren found valuable family belongings in an iron safe that was sold 17 years ago after its key was lost.

"Le Point" French newspaper, in a report on the incident, says that this strange story deserves to be turned into a Hollywood screenplay.

According to "France Blue Normandy" radio, the safe was sold in Cannes 17 years ago after its key was lost, but the buyer finally managed to open the safe after finding a suitable key in a scrap market in the Var province, where he currently lives.

The newspaper added that the man made an appeal through social media and the media, in order to find the former owner of the safe and return to him what he found inside, which actually happened on Friday, January 15th.

Among the items that the previous owner found were military medals that his grandfather won during World War I, two wills sealed from his parents, and a letter his father wrote while he was a prisoner during World War II, and the safe also contains administrative documents and several telegrams.

France Blue-Normandy radio reported that the previous owner had only recovered the contents, while the 250-kilogram safe was left in place due to the difficulty in transporting it.

The man, who recovered his lost belongings 17 years ago, said these documents would allow him to see "missing parts of the family's history."
