A vast fraud in the examination of the Highway Code has recently come to light in Eure-et-Loir.

A driving school based in Vernouillet would have mounted a fraud, consisting in "selling" a false receipt for the theoretical exam to candidates for the sum of 1,000 euros.

The prefecture of Eure-et-Loir became suspicious at the end of 2019 regarding the number of new holders of the Highway Code registered in this driving school but domiciled outside the department, reports

L'Echo Républicain

.

Of the 923 fraudulent files put together by the driving school, 775 concerned candidates living outside Eure-et-Loir.

“Often, they used this driving school after failing several times in their department.

"

Seized, the prosecutor's office of Chartres entrusted the investigation to the police station of Dreux.

On January 12, five people were arrested.

At the home of the main suspect, aged 35, investigators found more than 55,000 euros in cash, including 25,000 hidden in the fridge.

The man would have admitted the facts.

Two of the suspects have been imprisoned and the other three placed under judicial supervision.

All were indicted on January 13 for fraud and organized money laundering.

They risk up to ten years in prison and a million euros fine.

The prefecture specified that the permits obtained fraudulently would be canceled.
