New data indicate that the emerging corona virus, which causes "Covid-19" disease, may lead to changes in the tongue, so what are they?

What are the most prominent other oral symptoms associated with Corona?

How do you maintain oral health during an injury?

We will answer the first question directly, then move on to the details.

The most prominent changes that may occur in the tongue in some cases of Corona patients are:

1- Redness of the tongue

2- swelling

3- Loss of lingual papillae "depapillated tongue" and the tongue appears in the image of what is called geographic tongue, as there are spots like a map on the tongue.

Professor Tim Spector - an epidemiologist at King's College London - had warned of what he called a "Covid tongue" in statements carried by several British and Russian press sites today.

Spector posted a tweet showing a picture of what a "Covid tongue" might look like.

One in five people with Covid still present with less common symptoms that dont get on the official PHE list - such as skin rashes.

Seeing increasing numbers of Covid tongues and strange mouth ulcers.

If you have a strange symptom or even just headache and fatigue stay at home!

The professor said that he also found mouth sores to be a symptom of the Corona virus.

It is known medically that some diseases may attack the tongue, causing changes that include pain, discolouration or swelling.

For his part, Gabriel Scully, a public health physician and chair of epidemiology and public health at the Royal Society of Medicine, told The Sun that the virus could have effects in such a wide range of body systems.

The professor said the medical name for acute tongue swelling that occurs as part of the syndrome is "glossitis".

He added that it could also involve a change of color, and it could also become - in a common term - the name of "strawberry tongue" or "raspberry tongue" in these cases.

And in the case of the strawberry tongue, the tongue is swollen and has redness.

Multiple studies

There are several studies that have reported tongue symptoms in Corona patients, including:

1- A study in "Nature" in which the patient suffered from tongue pain.

2- A study in "JAMA" and "JAMA Dermatology" reported symptoms in children who developed Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome and suffered from "strawberry tongue."

3- A study in the British Journal of Dermatology showed that multiple symptoms of Corona have appeared, including what happens in the mouth and tongue, and pictures of these symptoms can be viewed by clicking on this link.

What are the most prominent other oral symptoms?

According to a research review in the Journal of Dermatology Therapy, the following are some of the oral symptoms that are associated with "Covid-19":

1- Dysgeusia, the first known oral symptom of the emerging coronavirus disease.

2- bedsores

3- Pimples

4- fissured tongue

5- Loss of lingual papillae "depapillated tongue" and the tongue appears in the form of what is called geographic tongue, as there are spots like a map on the tongue.

6- "plaque", which is made up of acids, sugars (food residues), bacteria and saliva.

7- pigmentation

8- Bad breath

9- "whitish areas"

9- Hemorrhagic crust, caused by "hemorrhagic crust"

10- swelling

11- Bleeding

Older patients with more severe disease than "Covid-19" had "oral lesions" (oral lesions) that were more common and severe.

How do you maintain oral health during Corona infection?

1- First, see the doctor and adhere to his instructions

2- Brush your teeth at least twice a day with toothpaste that contains fluoride, and this will protect your gums from disease and your teeth from decay.

3- Ideally, you should brush your teeth after every meal.

4- Brush your teeth with dental floss at least once a day.

5- Use a soft toothbrush, and do not use coarse because it scratches the teeth and injures the gums, and it does not remove the hard calcifications that need to be cleaned by the doctor to remove them.

6- The doctor may recommend that you use a special gum rinse.
