The birds were kept in a cage that was only one meter long and 40 centimeters wide where they had very limited opportunity to move.

The cage was covered with blankets and blankets when the owner was not home because the neighbors complained that the birds sounded loud.

The cage stood directly on the floor in a dirty environment.

One of the birds lacks feathers on large parts of the body.

40 year old parrots

The woman who owns the parrots has previously received two decisions to order the county administrative board to arrange a larger cage for the birds.

An aviary was also found in the home in Varberg municipality but was not used for the birds.

The birds have suffered

According to the county administrative board, the birds have been subjected to suffering as they have not had the opportunity to exercise a natural behavior, which creates stress-related diseases in them.

The authority notes that the owner lacks an understanding of the parrots' most basic needs.

The cockatoos, a male and a female in their 40s, have now moved to an animal shelter where they have been given a much larger cage to live in.

- These birds are estimated to be up to 80 years old so they have only lived half their lives so far.

They are very intelligent animals, says Emma Kjellerup animal welfare officer at the County Administrative Board Halland.

The County Administrative Board will now investigate whether the case should go on to prosecutors for possible prosecution for animal welfare violations and whether the woman should be banned from animals.
