Munich (dpa / lby) - The corona pandemic has brought a lot of additional work to the Bavarian Constitutional Court.

In 2020, 238 new proceedings were received, around 100 more than in the previous year.

The significant increase was due to the current pandemic situation, the court announced on Monday in Munich.

Last year, 13 applications were made for a temporary injunction - all in connection with Corona.

In 2019 there was only one urgent application.

In addition, 119 popular lawsuits were filed, compared to only 22 in the previous year. 104 of these lawsuits concerned regulations that were issued in connection with combating pandemics.

The Bavarian regulations on infection protection measures or quarantine when entering the Free State were affected.

With the popular lawsuit, anyone can apply for legal norms of Bavarian state law to be checked for their constitutionality.

On the other hand, the constitutional complaint is different, the number of which in Bavaria in 2020 was not unusually high at 112.

It can be filed by citizens who feel that their constitutional rights have been violated by the decisions of the authorities and courts in the Free State.
