Schwerin (dpa / mv) - Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is again looking for particularly livable villages and active village communities.

Agriculture Minister Till Backhaus (SPD) called on Monday to take part in the 11th competition “Our village has a future”, which this year will begin with district elimination and will end in 2023 with the national competition.

The corona pandemic currently sets limits to social, ecological and other activities that are beneficial to village life.

However, especially in these times, cohesion and creativity are important.

"Especially the people in the rural areas of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania have shown in the past that they are able to cope with crises together," explained Backhaus in Schwerin.

With the competition, the civic engagement of the people in the villages should be activated and appreciated.

Registration of the municipalities for the district competition is possible until the end of May.

In the last federal competition, two applicants from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania were among the medal winners.

In January 2020, Dobbertin (Ludwigslust-Parchim district) and Mühl Rosin (Rostock district) were recognized for their special commitment and performance.

According to the ministry, Dobbertin received a silver medal and prize money of 10,000 euros.

In addition to bronze, Mühl Rosin also won a prize of 5000 euros.
