Tokyo (AP) - Japan's Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga has reaffirmed his determination to host the Olympic Games in Tokyo this summer, regardless of the ongoing corona pandemic.

The pandemic will be brought under control "as soon as possible" and preparations for the Olympic Games and Paralympics will continue, Suga said at the start of a parliamentary session.

The games would serve as proof “that humanity has defeated the corona virus,” said the Prime Minister.

However, according to recent polls, the vast majority of his country's population is in favor of the Games being canceled or postponed again.
