Dresden (dpa / sn) - In Saxony, thousands of students in the final grades have returned to schools.

Around 50,800 girls and boys are now being taught in divided classes so that they can prepare for the upcoming exams.

On Monday, many students initially had voluntary and free corona rapid tests.

How many took part is initially unclear, said a spokesman for the Ministry of Culture on Monday.

The State Office for Schools and Education reported, however, that the tests at all test schools ran “smoothly” and without any problems.

Because the tests are staggered, teachers and students should still be able to test themselves on Tuesday.

The partial opening in the middle of the corona lockdown caused discussions in advance. There was criticism from the GEW trade union, for example, and the teachers' association also considers the return of thousands of students to be premature in view of the continued high number of infections.
