Karlsruhe (dpa) - Two alleged war criminals from Syria will soon be tried in Düsseldorf.

The Federal Prosecutor's office has brought charges against the two men at the higher regional court there, as it announced in Karlsruhe on Monday.

You are suspected of participating in the execution of a lieutenant colonel in the Syrian government troops in 2012.

The men were caught in Naumburg in Saxony-Anhalt and Essen in July of last year.

They have been in custody ever since.

According to investigators, the men are said to have brought the handcuffed and severely abused prisoner with them to the execution.

One then took over the guard, the other filmed and commented on the shooting for propaganda purposes.

One of the men is said to have belonged to a group that then joined the Al-Nusra Front.

He is therefore also charged as a member of a terrorist organization.

The second is said to have fought for this and other groups without a permanent affiliation.

The age of the men was not disclosed.

According to the Federal Prosecutor's Office, the charge was brought in mid-December.
