Karlsruhe (dpa / lsw) - Almost two months before the state elections in Baden-Württemberg, the Diakonie Baden asked politicians to look at people without the possibility of digital participation.

Many needy people who are dependent on basic security, housing benefits and contacts to the employment office would be excluded without digital access and would have no way of claiming their social rights, said senior church councilor Urs Keller on Monday.

"Everyone needs digital access."

This should also be laid down in the coalition agreement of the future government.

The state also has to take over the financing to a certain extent.

"We need a political decision that digitization should be driven forward in the social economy as it is in other areas of society," said André Peters, Board Member for Economics and Finance.

"We don't want those in need to be excluded because of lack of access."

The livelihood of those living in poverty is at risk, added Corinna Kopf from the Diakonisches Werk Baden-Baden and Rastatt.

If, for example, forms were not submitted digitally, assistance was not requested or appointments at advice centers could not be made online because people simply lacked the technical capabilities, they would fall by the wayside.

The corona pandemic, in which personal contacts are often impossible, significantly increases the existing inequalities.
