Vienna (dpa) - In the legal dispute over corona infections in the Tyrolean ski resort of Ischgl, the first hearing is scheduled for April in a Viennese court.

The chairman of the consumer protection association (VSV) Peter Kolba announced on Monday.

By then, another 100 official liability suits would be filed against the Republic of Austria, according to Kolba: "We are equipped for years of proceedings. Tyrol has to judge whether the Ischgl brand can withstand years of dispute."

The plaintiffs want compensation.

At the hearing, Austria's Chancellor Sebastian Kurz and two ministers should also testify as witnesses.

According to their own statements, thousands of people have registered with the association, many of them from Germany, who are said to have been infected with the corona virus while staying in Ischgl at the beginning of last year.

According to Kolba, the hearing on April 9 before the Regional Court for Civil Law Matters in Vienna is about the case of an Austrian who was infected in Ischgl and then died.

The association also plans to organize a class action in the spring.

Ischgl was considered a Corona hotspot in Europe in March 2020.

Thousands of infections are said to be due to the well-known Tyrolean winter sports resort.

In the meantime, an independent expert commission had established that there had been errors and misjudgments in crisis management.

The Innsbruck public prosecutor's office is investigating.

The State of Austria had denied any culpable action by the authorities in a defense.
