Dresden (dpa / sn) - The Saxon health authorities have reported 421 further new corona infections and 25 deaths within one day to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).

At the same time, the 7-day incidence fell to 245, from 253 the previous day.

In a national comparison, Saxony still has the second highest infection rate after Thuringia (274).

A total of almost 167,000 people from the Free State have been proven to be infected with the corona virus, and more than 5100 people have died.

The highest infection rate in Saxony was reported on Monday for the district of central Saxony (425) - the third highest value nationwide.

In Germany, according to the RKI, the lowest number of new infections since October 20 was reported at the beginning of the week: 7141. In addition, 214 new deaths were recorded within 24 hours - the value has not been so low since December 14.

However, the number of cases recorded is usually lower on Mondays, partly because fewer tests are carried out on the weekend.

Exactly one week ago, the RKI had recorded 12,497 new infections and 343 new deaths within 24 hours.

The incidence value is currently slightly more than 134 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within 7 days.
