Berlin (dpa) - The Verdi union also sees employers as responsible for any further requirements for wearing FFP2 masks, for example in shops or buses and trains.

"In any case, companies must provide their employees with FFP-2 masks free of charge and in sufficient numbers," said Verdi boss Frank Werneke on Sunday.

Employees must also be able to take additional paid short breaks to take off the mask and take a deep breath.

Werneke demanded that the employees should not be burdened with a mask requirement - security guards and security personnel must be entrusted with this.

All people should also have access to masks.

"It must be ensured that FFP-2 masks are available in sufficient numbers in good time and also free of charge for those on low incomes."

As of this Monday, FFP2 masks are to be mandatory in public transport and when shopping in Bavaria.

With a view to possible further tightening of corona restrictions, this is also being discussed nationwide.

Mouth and nose covers have been mandatory in transport and in shops for months - but all kinds of masks can be used.

FFP2 masks provide more protection for the wearer than other masks.
