A Sunday under pressure in the United States.

Tens of thousands of police and military are mobilized in the country as supporters of Donald Trump could demonstrate in the capitals of the 50 states, four days before the inauguration of Joe Biden.

The president-elect is due to take office next Wednesday in a divided country, hit hard by the coronavirus and in the midst of the economic crisis.

The challenges that await the future head of state are numerous.

And Joe Biden intends to act quickly.

For a president to sign a first presidential decree immediately after entering the Oval Office is not uncommon.

But this is not a single text that should await the new president on his desk at the end of the inauguration ceremony.

Joe Biden is expected to sign a dozen executive orders on Wednesday alone.

And a series of others in the following days.

For Joe Biden the goal is twofold.

By acting quickly, he wants to show that he is aware of the scale of the

health

and economic

crisis

hitting the United States and to show himself as a leader up to the task.

But he also wants to emphasize that a new era is opening by immediately reverting to certain controversial measures adopted by his predecessor, such as the entry ban on American territory for nationals of certain Muslim countries or the exit from the Paris agreements on the fight against global warming.

However, the strategy exposes him to the risk of seeing the criticisms made by the Democrats against his predecessor turn against him: those of abusing his presidential prerogatives.

Carrying out in-depth reforms will go through legislation.

And if the Democrats have a majority in both chambers, it remains fine.

It will therefore be necessary for the future president to dialogue with the Republicans.
