Blood continues to flow in Afghanistan.

Two female judges working for the country's Supreme Court were shot dead in Kabul on Sunday morning, as the capital has been ravaged by targeted attacks for several months.

"Armed men attacked [their] vehicle," said Ahmad Fahim Qaweem, spokesperson for the institution, adding that the two women were on their way to their workplace when they were murdered.

Kabul police spokesperson Ferdaws Faramarz said the two women were targeted in the center of town at 8:30 a.m. "They were judges working for the Supreme Court," confirmed Jamshid Rasuli, spokesperson. word of the Attorney General.

The United States accuses the Taliban

The country has been the scene in recent weeks of a series of targeted assassinations of personalities, including members of the media, politicians and human rights defenders.

The Afghan authorities blamed the attacks on the Taliban, although the Islamic State organization claimed some of them.

The US military, meanwhile, for the first time blamed the Taliban for targeted attacks last week.

Sunday's attack comes two days after Washington announced a recent reduction in US forces in Afghanistan to 2,500, the lowest number since the September 11 attacks.
