Research shows, according to information from Karlskoga municipality, that men drive cars to a much greater extent than women who more often walk, cycle, drive as passengers or travel by various means of public transport.

If the municipality prioritises clearing roads that are intended for cars, it therefore means prioritizing accessibility for the mode of transport that men prefer over those used by women.

"Can save money and unnecessary suffering"

The municipality has now therefore re-controlled the priorities.

Preschools are given first priority in snow removal, before six in the morning, because this is where parents go before they go to work.

After that, priority is given to larger workplaces and then walking and cycling paths to schools are plowed, just in time for the students to start moving.

- No special decisions have been required, we have just started working in a different way.

We simply changed the schedule for snow removal.

It has not cost a fortune, but has improved the municipality's service to the citizens, says Bruno Rudström in a press release on the municipality's website.

The municipality even believes that the change may mean saved costs as fewer pedestrians are injured in slippery accidents.
