In May 2019, three top politicians in Sölveborg joked about group sex in a picture that was posted on social media.
The picture spread throughout Sweden and ended with the resignation of municipal councilor Emilie Pilthammar (M), as well as Peter Thyrén (SD), chairman of the culture and leisure committee, and Niklas Joelsson (M), chairman of the children and education committee.
Now Niklas Joelsson is making a comeback when Sölvesborg starts a new committee for work and welfare.
- I have had time out and bid my time.
Now I am ready to enter politics in earnest again, says Niklas Joelsson.
You become chairman of a committee that concerns the most vulnerable in society, do you think they have confidence in you?
- It remains to be seen, but I hope so.
How do you look back on the scandal picture?
- Immediately after, it was very difficult.
It is with new strengths and insights that I enter into this again.
Group leader: "Hope this does not hurt us"
Kith Mårtensson, group leader for the Moderates in Sölvesborg, believes that the entire moderate council group agrees that Niklas Joelsson will return.
- I hope this will not hurt us.
Niklas is the one who is most suitable for this assignment and we have had several conversations with him about how we should proceed after this incident.
He has shown in all desirable ways that he is now mature for this task, says Kith Mårtensson.
