Saarbrücken (dpa) - A lot is different in the corona pandemic - including the renowned Max Ophüls Preis (MOP) film festival in Saarbrücken.

It starts this Sunday (7.30 p.m.) as a purely online festival.

The 42nd edition starts with the awarding of the honorary prize to director, photographer and producer Wim Wenders for his services to young German-language film.

Then the documentary film “A black Jesus” by Luca Lucchesi, which he produced, will be shown, which revolves around the worship of a black Jesus statue in a Sicilian village.

A total of 98 films will be shown until January 24th.

While the prelude will be free to watch on a streaming platform, tickets must be purchased for the films.

50 films start in the four festival competitions feature film, documentary film, medium length film and short film.

As in the previous year, 16 prizes with a total amount of 118,500 euros will be awarded, the total budget is 900,000 euros.

These prizes will then be presented next Saturday (January 23rd).
