Munich (dpa / lby) - At the start of the FFP2 mask requirement this Monday, the state government appeals to Bavarian citizens to adhere to the new regulation.

"The virus mutates and is becoming more aggressive, so it is wise to use all the options we have," said Transport Minister Kerstin Schreyer (CSU) on Sunday in Munich.

"This includes FFP2 masks, because they also protect the wearer himself from infection."

The FFP2 mask requirement applies from the beginning of the week wherever a simple mouth and nose cover was previously sufficient: on trains and buses, in train stations and stops, when shopping, when visiting the doctor and taking a taxi, and in the state parliament.

The announcement has drawn a lot of criticism from the state government.

Some medical professionals argue that FFP2 masks are actually intended for professionals and make breathing difficult.

On the part of the opposition in the state parliament, Söder is accused of hasty actionism in the corona crisis management.

Schreyer, on the other hand, emphasized: "We are consistently fighting the corona pandemic."

In local public transport, no fines should be imposed in the first week for violations - at least if the passengers concerned wear the previously prescribed mouth and nose covering.
