January 17, 2021 - Austria extends national lockdown until February 7, due to the so-called British variant of the coronavirus, and tightens some measures.

Chancellor Sebastian Kurz announced this at a press conference, reports the Apa agency.



The closures were initially scheduled until 24 January.

from the 25th the use of FFP2 masks will be imposed in shops and on public transport, while the physical distance has increased to 2 meters.



Austria, with 8.9 million inhabitants, is in its third lockdown, with only essential shops open.

so far it has recorded about 390,000 infections and more than 7,000 deaths.
