Covid-19: Faced with Pfizer's delays, Canada's provinces are spacing out vaccinations

Like many countries around the world, Canada is facing a delay in deliveries of doses of the Covid-19 vaccine manufactured by Pfizer.
Struggling with an increase in Covid-19 cases, Quebec has chosen to postpone the date of the second dose administered to its citizens, since two doses are necessary to be fully immunized.

While Canada orders and receives vaccine doses, immunization is the responsibility of each province.
In recent days, the delay in deliveries has led the provincial governments to review their plans.

In Ontario, for example, authorities have chosen to postpone the date recommended by Pfizer for administering the second dose of vaccine.
Rather than being vaccinated 3 weeks after the first dose, Ontarians could receive the second up to 42 days later.
Time between the first and second vaccination
In Quebec, the government is pushing back this deadline again.
It could take up to three months between the first and second vaccination.
This decision is not unanimous in the medical community.
Several specialists are concerned about the lack of scientific data about the effectiveness of the vaccine due to such a spread of vaccination.
The government, for its part, retorts that such planning will make it possible to vaccinate 500,000 vulnerable people in the coming months.
