Berlin (AP) - A young person and his pregnant girlfriend have delivered a dangerous car chase with the police in Berlin.

A spokesman said on Sunday that the 16-year-old without a driver's license ignored all police signs on Potsdamer Strasse.

Instead, he accelerated and changed lanes several times.

The car sped with strong acceleration in bus lanes and in oncoming traffic in the direction of Kurfürstenstrasse.

He disregarded several red lights in order not to be checked.

The car turned right too quickly on Kurfürstenstrasse.

A 23-year-old pedestrian pushing a stroller was reportedly just able to prevent a collision through a reflex.

The car went off the lane and crashed into a traffic light pole on the center island.

The alleged driver got out of the car and ran to Steinmetzstrasse, where the officers arrested him.

His 17-year-old pregnant girlfriend was still in the car and complained of stomach ache.

She came to a hospital for outpatient treatment.

The woman was not heavily pregnant - the 16-year-old's original destination was not a clinic, the police spokesman said.

Where he got the car key from was initially unclear.
