Essen (dpa / lnw) - An 89-year-old man was killed in an apartment fire in Essen.
The resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful during the operation on Sunday, said the fire department.
The fire brigade had previously become aware of the fire through a smoke detector in the four-story residential building in the Rüttenscheid district.
On site, the forces reportedly gained access to the apartment and took the man out.
The fire broke out in a kitchenette and could be extinguished quickly, it said.
