The Duhamel affair continues to cause a shock wave in France, and prompts many people to bear witness to the incest they suffered in their youth.

A keyword is spreading on twitter, #Metooinceste, echoing the #Metoo movement which denounced sexual violence against women.

It is a long series of chilling messages, recounting rapes suffered during childhood, by relatives, by parents.

She tells the story of the sexual abuse suffered by her brother during his childhood by the politilogue Olivier Duhamel.

This freedom of speech confirms for the movement all of us that “ 

the people who commit the crime of incest come from all walks of life

 ”, that adults react “ 

little

 ” and that the victims “ 

are not heard

 ”.

The subject is however very widespread.

In a survey published in November 2020, 10% of French people said they had been victims of incest.

This is a figure that has been increasing for about twenty years and among these victims, three quarters are women.
