The President of the Senate, Gérard Larcher, guest of the Grand Rendez-Vous on Europe 1, welcomed the agreement on a "charter of principles" of Islam in France, considering that this religion is perfectly soluble in the Republic.

He now calls for respect for the principles of the charter.

INTERVIEW

This Saturday, January 16, the French Council of Muslim Worship (CFCM) agreed on a "charter of principles" for Islam in France.

In particular, it plans to establish gender equality and the non-interference of foreign countries.

"Finally a text on the values of the Republic", welcomes the President of the Senate Gérard Larcher, guest of the Grand Rendez-Vous on Europe 1. "The law of 1905 on secularism is a pillar of the Republic, with the school and the law of 1901. The law must protect the faith, as long as faith does not intend to dictate the law. It is our principle ".

The question of the training of imams

A fine connoisseur of religions, Gérard Larcher believes that "if the Muslim religion falls within these principles, it is good news for the Muslims of France and for the Republic."

If religious leaders refused to sign this charter, Gérard Larcher indicates that the State would rely on legislative texts to ensure respect for the principles of the charter.

"The question of the training of imams will also be raised", specifies Gérard Larcher.
